First, an animal companion, familiar, or bonded mount, may choose one slot listed under its body type when taking the Extra Item Slot feat (this feat may be taken multiple times, each time selecting a different available magic item slot based on the creature's anatomy). Second, a familiar may exchange one of its feats for the Extra Item Slot feat. Available slots followed by either “ (saddle)” or “ (horseshoes)” denote that creatures of that body type can wear magic items in the appropriate slots only as long as they are either saddles or horseshoes, respectively (for instance, a hoofed quadruped can wear horseshoes of a zephyr, but not boots of speed).

We've got a druid and a ranger that both have wolves for companions. As our group has no traditional tank fighter we tend to use them quite a lot in combat. I'm about to take up a collection to get them some equipment.
My question is: what exactly can they use? I'd like to get them some form of light weight armor/barding that won't slow them down too much (leather most likely - especially for the druid's wolf). My co-DM has mentioned magic collars, but do wolves (or other quadrapeds for that matter) have any other 'magic item slots'?
Thanks.
